High Energy Yoga
Paul Engelmann teaches in the spirit of High Energy Yoga, focusing on the body's energy system by modifying traditional yoga poses and by using hands-on feedback to activate and realign the skeletal structure. His teacher, Roger Eischens, developed his style of yoga after 12 seasons of study with B.K.S. Iyengar in Pune, India, and in response to specific difficulties Americans had with traditional yoga poses and instruction.
Accessible to individuals at all skill levels and of all body types, basic yoga poses are taught as a foundation to advanced poses and to all forms of physical activity by generating the internal actions of the bones and by stimulating underactivated parts of the body. For most students H.E.Y. provides immediate, tangible results in posture and freedom of movement as well as mental and emotional well-being.
Instruction: H.E.Y. as Yoga Therapy
Classes, workshops, and individual instruction are offered by Paul. He pursues a keen interest in the therapeutic applications of yoga and in refining and improving the performance of athletes. In sessions he teaches what actually works, approaching each person and each pose with an open mind. Hands-on feedback is tailored to the individual, focusing on creating alignment and balance in movement patterns. Hands-on feedback can be summarized as briefly as, "Where I push, you resist." By bringing awareness to deactivated parts of the body, energy flows to that area. Being overly tight, overly mobile or in pain are all manifestations of imbalance and are treated using similar techniques but with different focuses.
A Note on the Usage of H.E.Y.
High Energy Yoga was coined by Roger in homage to the scientists - Planck, Heisenberg, Bohr and Einstein - who, in the early 20th century, reshaped how physics was understood. The field that was then known as quantum mechanics later became high energy physics. H.E.Y. also alludes to the phenomena of atomic structure; for example, when an electron is excited, it jumps into a higher orbit.
